Trip to the Turitea Walkway

Last Thursday, the Kahurangi POD went on a trip to the Turitea Walkway at Massey University, to explore Aquatic and Terrestrial Ecosystems, as a part of our Inquiry Learning "Nature - The Circle Of Life". Our students conducted small-group investigations and examined the environments of many living things. We all really enjoyed the trip and look forward to sharing all about our learning in the up-and-coming weeks! A big thank-you to all our parent helpers! Trips like this would not be possible without your help! Here is a link to some of the highlights from our trip... Enjoy :)

Kahurangi Turitea Stream Trip

Turitea Stream Visit
Information for Students & Parents

Friday 13 May 2016

Dear Parent/Caregiver(s),

Thanks to an overwhelming amount of parent support, we are able to go ahead with this trip as planned to support our Inquiry Learning unit: Nature - The Circle of Life.  We are really looking forward to it and it will be a great opportunity to explore different ecosystems and identify the impact of humans on these environments.

Our trip is on Thursday 19 May, from 9.30am to 12.30pm.  Children will be transported by bus or car to the Turitea Stream Bledisloe Park entrance by Massey University.  Children will need to:
  • Wear full school uniform, including their school polar fleece or jacket.
  • Have shoes comfortable for walking (there are no hikes but sensible shoes and socks are recommended - these do not have to be normal black school shoes).
  • Have a drink bottle with water and morning tea to take with them (we will have lunch back at school).
  • Have a warm jacket or coat packed in their bags in case of cooler weather.
  • Bring any necessary medication to their homeroom teachers e.g. asthma inhalers.  We recommend that children with hayfever or similar allergies take an antihistamine before coming to school as we will be walking through different bush areas.

Please ensure you let your child’s homeroom teacher know if your child has any medical issues we need to be aware of prior to our trip, by Tuesday next week, as it is important we can clearly identify and support any medical concerns that may arise.

If the weather is poor, we will have to cancel the trip.  We will send notifications out via the school app, our kahurangi blog and the school website by 8.30am on the day.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely,

Ana Matangi
